Halloween Saturday delivered another round of chaos. Seven ranked teams lost, led by No. 2 Ohio State's stunning defeat at USC. No. 1 Miami barely survived North Carolina, Indiana needed overtime against Minnesota, and both SMU and Oklahoma State went down in the final seconds. Meanwhile, Utah and UCLA remained undefeated, Georgia handled Florida, and Notre Dame bounced back decisively.

USC 30, No. 2 Ohio State 18

The biggest shock came at the Coliseum.

USC scored on its second offensive snap when Trent Mosley turned a short pass into a 69-yard touchdown, and the Trojans never trailed. Jayden Maiava threw for 222 yards, King Miller and Waymond Jordan added rushing touchdowns, and USC held Ohio State without a touchdown until the final three minutes.

Freshman Luke Fahey started for injured Julian Sayin and threw for 260 yards, but the Buckeyes repeatedly settled for field goals despite finishing with 464 total yards. USC's victory was its first over a top-five opponent at the Coliseum since 2015.

No. 3 Georgia 27, No. 17 Florida 8

Georgia turned the rivalry game in Atlanta into a defensive showcase.

Florida committed four turnovers, including three in the first half, and Georgia took a 24-0 lead into halftime. Chris Cole provided the defining play by returning a Florida fumble for a touchdown just before the break.

The Bulldogs did not need much from Gunner Stockton through the air. Nate Frazier and Dwight Phillips Jr. led a rushing attack that helped Georgia control the game and move to 7-1.

No. 13 Texas Tech 34, No. 22 Arizona 26

Texas Tech bounced back from its first loss by winning a competitive ranked matchup in Lubbock.

Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita threw for 417 yards, including a 94-yard touchdown, but Texas Tech countered with 326 rushing yards.

J'Koby Williams was spectacular, rushing for 175 yards, and his 64-yard touchdown with just over two minutes remaining effectively sealed the win.

Texas Tech improves to 7-1 and remains firmly in the Big 12 race.

No. 5 Notre Dame 35, Navy 13

Notre Dame had to work for a half before pulling away in Foxborough.

Navy actually led 13-7 late in the second quarter, but Nolan James Jr. broke a 52-yard touchdown run to send the Irish into halftime ahead 14-13.

Wisconsin never reached the scoreboard.

For Iowa, it was an impressive response after the heartbreaking loss at Minnesota and one of the Hawkeyes' most complete performances of the season.

Syracuse 30, No. 19 SMU 27

One of the weekend's best finishes came in the JMA Wireless Dome.

SMU rallied to take a 27-23 lead in the fourth quarter, but Syracuse mounted one final drive.

With 21 seconds remaining, Steve Angeli found Noah Meyers for a two-yard touchdown to give the Orange the lead.

The Rebels improve to 6-2 and keep themselves alive in the SEC race.

No. 4 Indiana 23, Minnesota 16, OT

Indiana has now survived two consecutive Big Ten grinders.

Minnesota took a 16-13 lead with 24 seconds remaining on a 60-yard field goal.

Indiana responded with something even more remarkable: Paddy McAteer drilled his own 60-yarder as time expired to send the game into overtime.

Backup quarterback Grant Wilson then hit Charlie Becker for a 25-yard touchdown on Indiana's first overtime snap, and the Hoosier defense finished the game with a fourth-down sack.

Indiana improves to 8-1.

No. 8 BYU 27, Arizona State 20

BYU avoided a second straight upset.

The Cougars led 17-3 at halftime, but Arizona State scored two third-quarter touchdowns to tie the game.

BYU regained control late. A fourth-quarter field goal made it 20-17, and Sione Moa's one-yard touchdown with 2:12 remaining gave the Cougars enough separation.

Bear Bachmeier threw for 236 yards and BYU moved to 7-1.

Oregon 34, No. 20 Northwestern 26

Northwestern looked poised for another major road win when it led 20-6 late in the second quarter.

Oregon gradually erased the deficit.

The Demon Deacons are now 7-1.

No. 7 UCLA 27, Nevada 0

UCLA remains perfect.

The Bruins forced four interceptions, including a first-quarter pick-six, and held Nevada to only 176 yards.

Ty Dieffenbach threw for 178 yards and a touchdown while also scoring on the ground.

UCLA is now 8-0, joining Miami and Utah as the nation's remaining unbeaten teams entering November.

Iowa State 51, No. 24 Oklahoma State 49

This was the wildest game of the afternoon.

Oklahoma State quarterback Drew Mestemaker threw five touchdown passes, Caleb Hawkins accumulated 275 yards from scrimmage and the Cowboys took a 49-48 lead with 57 seconds remaining.

Iowa State answered.

Jaylen Raynor hit Jamal Polite Jr. for 33 yards to move into scoring range, and Kyle Konrardy kicked a 34-yard field goal with two seconds left.

UNC quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. was outstanding, completing 28 of 34 passes for 341 yards and four touchdowns.

Texas followed its win over Ole Miss with another strong performance.

Arch Manning completed 16 of 20 passes for 220 yards and three touchdowns, and the Longhorn defense allowed only 187 total yards.

Mississippi State's only points came on a third-quarter field goal.

After consecutive losses earlier in October, Texas has now won two straight and appears to have stabilized its season.

No. 23 Missouri 34, Arkansas 10

Missouri's defense controlled this game.

Arkansas committed four turnovers, and Missouri converted those mistakes into 24 points. One came directly on Darris Smith's fumble recovery in the end zone.

All-American running back Ahmad Hardy also made his season debut after missing Missouri's first seven games.

No. 20 Boise State 46, Texas State 45

The final ranked game produced one of the craziest finishes of the entire season.

Boise State led 28-3 at halftime.

Texas State then scored the next 36 points and led 39-28 midway through the fourth quarter.

Starting Boise quarterback Maddux Madsen was injured, forcing Max Cutforth into the game. Cutforth responded by throwing three touchdown passes in the final seven minutes, including an 18-yard winner to Akeem Wright with 2:40 remaining.

Texas State quarterback Brad Jackson threw for 327 yards and four touchdowns, but Boise State somehow escaped 46-45.

Halloween leaves the rankings shaken again

The biggest consequence is obvious: Ohio State will tumble from No. 2 after losing to an unranked USC team. The Trojans, meanwhile, should return to the rankings after producing their biggest win in years.

Miami remains undefeated but looked vulnerable. Utah was anything but vulnerable, hammering a Cincinnati team that had just beaten Texas Tech. UCLA quietly moved to 8-0 with a shutout.

Georgia, Notre Dame and Texas all strengthened their positions, while SMU, Northwestern, Oklahoma State and Wisconsin joined Ohio State among the ranked teams beaten on Halloween.

October began with chaos and ended the same way.

The difference now is that November has arrived, and the playoff margin for error is almost gone.
