The most competitive matchup of the group came between Colorado and Georgia Tech. Colorado escaped with a 14-13 win in a defensive battle where every possession mattered. Unlike the other games on the slate, neither offense was able to create much separation. Georgia Tech stayed within striking distance throughout, but Colorado did just enough to protect its narrow advantage and walk away with the one-point victory.

No. 21 Utah was even more explosive offensively, hammering Idaho 66-14. The Utes' 66 points were the highest total among these seven games, and the 52-point margin emphasized just how lopsided the contest became. Utah entered as the clear favorite and looked the part, overwhelming Idaho with a relentless scoring attack.
Illinois also opened with a convincing victory, defeating UAB 42-23. UAB managed to put up 23 points and remained competitive offensively, but Illinois consistently stayed ahead and eventually created a comfortable margin. The Fighting Illini's 42-point output made for a strong start and provided plenty of positives offensively.
Overall, the night featured several decisive victories, but the two results that stand out most were UMass' impressive 37-21 win over Rutgers and Colorado's tense 14-13 escape against Georgia Tech.
