Saturday brings one of the strongest slates of the young season, with six ranked-vs.-ranked matchups and major games stretching from morning through late evening. No. 1 Texas walks into Neyland Stadium, unbeaten Ole Miss and Florida collide in The Swamp, Iowa and Michigan bring two elite defenses together in Ann Arbor, and the evening features Oregon-USC, Texas A&M-LSU and Missouri-Mississippi State.

No. 1 Texas at No. 14 Tennessee

9:00 AM PT (12:00 PM ET) | ABC

The day begins with perhaps its biggest game. Both teams enter 3-0, and Texas makes its first-ever visit to Neyland Stadium for the first regular-season meeting between the programs. Their three previous meetings all came in Cotton Bowls.

Tennessee brings a young but increasingly dangerous offense led by quarterback Faizon Brandon, running back DeSean Bishop and receiver Mike Matthews. Texas arrives as the nation's No. 1 team with Arch Manning directing an offense that has already beaten Ohio State this season. The atmosphere should be a major part of the story: Tennessee has designated the game as its Checker Neyland matchup in front of more than 100,000 fans.

Illinois at No. 7 Ohio State

9:00 AM PT (12:00 PM ET) | FOX

Ohio State begins Big Ten play against an Illinois team that enters 2-1. The Buckeyes are also 2-1 after responding to their loss at Texas with convincing victories, including a 59-3 rout of Kent State last weekend.

The Illibuck Trophy adds some traditional Big Ten flavor. Illinois has wins over UAB and Southern Illinois surrounding a loss to Duke, while Ohio State will look to continue sharpening an offense that has shown flashes of explosiveness but is still developing around its young personnel.

No. 3 Notre Dame at Purdue

11:00 AM PT (2:00 PM ET) | Peacock

Notre Dame takes its 3-0 record to West Lafayette for an in-state rivalry game with Purdue.

The Irish have won 10 consecutive meetings against the Boilermakers and enter Saturday riding a 13-game overall winning streak. Notre Dame comes off a 27-10 win over Michigan State in which its defense surrendered only 167 total yards. Purdue is 1-2 but showed significant offensive ability last week, producing 488 yards in a 52-38 loss at UCLA.

The question is whether Purdue can produce enough big plays to make Notre Dame uncomfortable without allowing the Irish running game to control the afternoon.

No. 4 Ole Miss at No. 21 Florida

12:30 PM PT (3:30 PM ET) | ABC

One of Saturday's most intriguing SEC games features two undefeated teams.

Ole Miss moved to No. 4 after its 32-24 win over LSU, with quarterback Trinidad Chambliss continuing an outstanding start. The Rebels lead the SEC in passing offense at 330.7 yards per game and operate one of the conference's fastest offenses.

Florida is also 3-0 following a 44-39 win at Auburn. Running back Jadan Baugh has been the centerpiece of the Gator offense, already rushing for 458 yards and eight touchdowns.

This is Ole Miss' first true road game of the season, and the Rebels have not won in The Swamp since 2008. The all-time series is tied 13-13-1.

No. 17 Iowa at No. 18 Michigan

12:30 PM PT (3:30 PM ET) | CBS

Do not expect many easy yards in Ann Arbor.

Both teams are 3-0, and defense has been the foundation for each. Michigan ranks in the national top 10 in total defense, sacks, tackles for loss and passing yards allowed. Iowa enters with one of the country's stingiest defenses and has already recorded two shutouts.

Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood has thrown for 504 yards and rushed for another 156, giving the Wolverines a dual-threat element that Iowa must account for. Iowa, meanwhile, will likely try to establish the running game and turn the afternoon into a field-position contest.

Michigan has won the last four meetings, including a 26-0 victory in the 2023 Big Ten Championship Game.

Oklahoma at No. 2 Georgia

12:30 PM PT (3:30 PM ET) | ESPN

There is history here despite almost no history between the schools.

Saturday marks Oklahoma's first trip to Athens and only the second meeting ever between the Sooners and Bulldogs. The first was unforgettable: Georgia's 54-48 double-overtime victory in the 2017 season's Rose Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal.

Georgia enters 3-0 after beating Arkansas 45-17, while Oklahoma is 2-1 after narrowly escaping New Mexico 14-6. The Sooners have shown they can defend, but their offense will need considerably more production against a Georgia team that has increasingly imposed itself at the line of scrimmage.

Wisconsin at No. 13 Penn State

2:00 PM PT (5:00 PM ET) | Peacock

Penn State opens Big Ten play at Beaver Stadium with a traditional conference matchup and a Homecoming crowd.

The Nittany Lions enter 3-0, while Wisconsin is 2-1. Penn State has won six consecutive games against the Badgers and leads the all-time series 12-9.

Wisconsin's biggest test so far ended in a 41-13 loss to Notre Dame, while Penn State arrives unbeaten under Matt Campbell. Saturday is also Penn State's annual Helmet Stripe game, which should give Beaver Stadium a particularly strong atmosphere.

South Carolina at No. 8 Alabama

4:00 PM PT (7:00 PM ET) | ESPN

Alabama's perfect record has not come without adversity.

The Crimson Tide fell behind Florida State 21-6 last weekend before exploding for 44 points over the remainder of the game in a 50-36 victory. Sophomore quarterback Keelon Russell now has 764 passing yards through three games and appears increasingly comfortable directing the offense.

South Carolina is 2-1 after surrendering a 16-0 lead in a 41-34 loss to Mississippi State. Quarterback LaNorris Sellers gives the Gamecocks the kind of mobility that can complicate defensive game plans, and he has played competitive games against Alabama in each of the last two seasons.

No. 20 Oregon at No. 12 USC

4:30 PM PT (7:30 PM ET) | NBC

This may be the most entertaining game of the night.

USC enters 4-0, but the Trojans were pushed hard last week in a 42-35 win at Rutgers. Jayden Maiava has thrown for 1,173 yards through four games, while King Miller has supplied balance with 338 rushing yards.

Oregon's season has been far less predictable. The Ducks were upset 39-31 at Oklahoma State, then responded by annihilating Portland State 84-0, producing 726 yards of offense.

Oregon has won four straight games against USC, including a 42-27 victory last season, and has taken eight of the last 10 meetings. USC, however, leads the all-time series and gets this one in the Coliseum.

With Oregon trying to reestablish itself nationally and USC trying to prove its unbeaten start is sustainable, the stakes are substantial.

No. 23 Texas A&M at No. 10 LSU

4:30 PM PT (7:30 PM ET) | ABC

Two teams looking to recover from disappointing losses meet under the lights in Baton Rouge.

Texas A&M dropped from No. 9 to No. 23 after Kentucky beat the Aggies 31-21 at Kyle Field. LSU fell to 2-1 after losing 32-24 at Ole Miss.

Recent history favors A&M: the Aggies have won two straight and three of the last four against LSU, including a 49-25 victory in Tiger Stadium last season.

One matchup to watch is third down. Texas A&M has allowed opponents to convert only seven of 31 attempts, while LSU has converted 56 percent of its third downs.

And as always, a Saturday night kickoff in Tiger Stadium adds another dimension.

No. 19 Missouri at No. 24 Mississippi State

4:45 PM PT (7:45 PM ET) | SEC Network

This may be the most overlooked ranked matchup on the schedule.

Both teams are 3-0, and both showed resilience last weekend. Missouri fell behind Troy 10-0 before rallying to win 27-17, while Mississippi State erased a 16-0 deficit against South Carolina and won 41-34.

Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor has emerged as one of the SEC's more intriguing early-season performers, while Missouri brings a defense capable of changing games with turnovers.

Missouri has also won the last two meetings in the series, including a 49-27 victory last season.

The Saturday picture

The schedule starts fast with No. 1 Texas walking into Neyland Stadium and never really lets up.

The 3:30 Eastern window alone offers Ole Miss-Florida, Iowa-Michigan and Oklahoma-Georgia. Then the evening turns to the Coliseum for Oregon-USC and Tiger Stadium for Texas A&M-LSU before Missouri and Mississippi State finish the ranked action in Starkville.

By the end of Saturday, several undefeated records will be gone, the SEC and Big Ten races should look very different, and the national picture may be substantially clearer heading into October.
