The second Saturday of October brings one of the deepest schedules of the season, with 17 games involving AP Top 25 teams. The centerpiece arrives tonight in Tuscaloosa, where No. 2 Georgia meets No. 6 Alabama, but there are major games from the opening window through late night.
No. 1 Texas faces Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry, undefeated No. 7 Indiana travels to undefeated Nebraska, No. 21 UCLA visits No. 13 Oregon, and No. 19 USC walks into Penn State's White Out. Several ranked SEC teams also face dangerous road tests.
No. 7 Indiana at Nebraska
9:00 AM PT (12:00 PM ET)
One of the most intriguing games of the day features two 5-0 teams in Lincoln.
Indiana survived its first serious test against Northwestern and continues its defense of last season's national championship. Nebraska, meanwhile, has quietly reached 5-0 and now gets its first opportunity to show whether that start can translate against elite Big Ten competition.
Memorial Stadium should be rocking. Indiana enters as the ranked team, but Nebraska's perfect record and home-field environment make this a significant test for the Hoosiers.
Texas A&M at No. 14 Missouri
9:00 AM PT (12:00 PM ET) | ABC
Missouri produced one of last weekend's biggest statements by destroying then-No. 8 Florida 45-17, and now the Tigers have to prove they can follow it up.
Quarterback Austin Simmons and running back Jamal Roberts were both spectacular against Florida. Roberts rushed for 211 yards and three touchdowns, while Simmons threw for 340 yards.
Texas A&M enters 3-2 and badly needs an SEC road victory. The Aggies have won three straight against Missouri, including a 38-17 victory in Columbia last season.
UCF at No. 18 Oklahoma State
9:00 AM PT (12:00 PM ET)
Oklahoma State has been one of the season's biggest surprises since its stunning 39-31 upset of Oregon.
Now the Cowboys return to Boone Pickens Stadium against a UCF team that led Houston 17-0 last week before allowing the final 27 points.
For Oklahoma State, the challenge is avoiding the kind of letdown that often follows an emotional climb into the rankings.
North Carolina at No. 25 Pittsburgh
9:00 AM PT (12:00 PM ET)
Pitt finally cracked the rankings after surviving Virginia Tech 35-33 last Friday.
The Panthers are unbeaten, but the Virginia Tech game exposed how thin the margin can be. Pitt was outgained 499-295 and benefited enormously from four Hokie turnovers before surviving a missed field goal in the final seconds.
North Carolina pushed Notre Dame before falling 37-26, so this has the feel of another potentially uncomfortable afternoon for Pitt.
South Carolina at No. 16 Florida
9:45 AM PT (12:45 PM ET)
Florida's challenge is psychological as much as physical.
One week after vaulting into the top 10 following a 52-28 demolition of Ole Miss, the Gators were humbled by Missouri, 45-17. Florida allowed 560 yards, including 211 rushing yards to Jamal Roberts.
Now the Gators return to The Swamp trying to prevent one bad afternoon from becoming a losing streak. South Carolina has been inconsistent, but LaNorris Sellers gives the Gamecocks enough offensive ability to make this dangerous.
Stanford at No. 3 Notre Dame
12:30 PM PT (3:30 PM ET)
Notre Dame is 5-0 and continues to look increasingly comfortable offensively.
CJ Carr threw four touchdown passes without an interception in last week's 37-26 victory at North Carolina, while Jonaz Walton added 120 rushing yards. The Irish controlled possession for more than 37 minutes and finished with 475 yards.
Stanford faces a difficult assignment in South Bend against a Notre Dame team that has won 15 consecutive games.
No. 1 Texas vs. Oklahoma
12:30 PM PT (3:30 PM ET) | Cotton Bowl, Dallas
Rankings rarely matter much once Texas and Oklahoma meet at the Cotton Bowl.
The Red River Rivalry brings top-ranked Texas into Dallas against an Oklahoma team that can dramatically change the direction of its season with one afternoon. Texas enters as the country's No. 1 team, but this rivalry has produced enough surprises to make the ranking almost secondary.
The neutral-field setting, split stadium and annual State Fair backdrop remain among the sport's best traditions. Oklahoma is also trying to end its recent losing streak in the series.
No. 22 Houston at Kansas State
12:30 PM PT (3:30 PM ET)
Houston has shown considerable resilience.
The Cougars nearly upset Texas Tech before losing 28-26, then erased a 17-point deficit against UCF last weekend to win 27-17. Quarterback Conner Weigman rushed for three touchdowns in that comeback.
Kansas State is always difficult to beat in Manhattan, which makes this another useful test of whether Houston belongs in the Big 12's upper tier.
No. 21 UCLA at No. 13 Oregon
12:30 PM PT (3:30 PM ET)
This might be the afternoon game's best matchup.
UCLA enters 4-0, while Oregon is trying to continue rebuilding momentum after its early loss at Oklahoma State. The Ducks responded by destroying Portland State 84-0 and then beating USC 41-27 at the Coliseum.
The matchup in the trenches could decide this one. UCLA enters with one of the country's most productive rushing attacks, while Oregon brings considerably more speed and depth than anyone the Bruins have faced so far.
Oregon has won eight consecutive meetings between the programs.
No. 9 Ole Miss at Vanderbilt
12:30 PM PT (3:30 PM ET)
Ole Miss has had an eventful two weeks.
The Rebels beat LSU 32-24 before getting hammered by Florida 52-28. Now they head to Nashville needing to stabilize their defense and avoid another setback.
Trinidad Chambliss has remained productive at quarterback, but Vanderbilt represents the sort of disciplined opponent that can make a favorite work for four quarters. Ole Miss enters as a significant favorite, but this feels more important than the ranking difference suggests.
Maryland at No. 5 Ohio State
1:15 PM PT (4:15 PM ET)
Ohio State answered one of its toughest road challenges with authority last week.
The Buckeyes went into Kinnick Stadium and beat No. 14 Iowa 31-14, piling up 484 yards against a defense that had been one of the nation's best.
Julian Sayin threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns, while Jeremiah Smith caught 11 passes for 206 yards and two scores. When those two are operating at that level, Ohio State becomes extremely difficult to contain.
Maryland now has to deal with them in Columbus.
No. 15 Tennessee at Arkansas
1:15 PM PT (4:15 PM ET)
Tennessee takes its first SEC road trip of the season after beating Auburn 24-14.
The Volunteers' identity is becoming increasingly clear: run the football and attack quarterbacks. DeSean Bishop rushed for 220 yards and three touchdowns against Auburn, while Tennessee enters Saturday leading the FBS with 23 sacks and ranking among the national leaders with 42 tackles for loss.
Fayetteville can be a difficult road environment, and Arkansas has enough offensive talent to punish mistakes.
No. 10 LSU at Kentucky
4:00 PM PT (7:00 PM ET)
This one deserves more attention.
LSU is 4-1, but its only previous road game ended in a 32-24 loss at Ole Miss. Kentucky is also 4-1 and has won three straight, including SEC victories over Texas A&M and South Carolina.
That makes Lexington a genuine test for LSU rather than simply another stop on the schedule.
Kentucky has already demonstrated an ability to beat ranked SEC competition, while LSU needs to show that the dominant performance it produced against Texas A&M can travel.
No. 19 USC at Penn State
4:30 PM PT (7:30 PM ET) | NBC
The ranking belongs to USC, but the atmosphere belongs to Penn State.
It is White Out night at Beaver Stadium, the 19th full-stadium White Out in program history. Penn State desperately needs something positive after consecutive losses to Wisconsin and Northwestern, the latter a stunning 34-13 defeat in the opening game at the new Ryan Field.
USC enters 5-1 after rallying from an 11-point second-half deficit to beat Washington 25-21.
The programs have met only 11 times, and USC leads the series 6-5. Penn State won their previous meeting 33-30 in overtime at the Coliseum in 2024.
No. 2 Georgia at No. 6 Alabama
4:30 PM PT (7:30 PM ET) | ABC
This is the main event.
Both programs are unbeaten. Both are scoring nearly 50 points per game. And Alabama has been the one opponent that has consistently complicated Georgia's dominance under Kirby Smart.
Georgia enters 5-0 behind Gunner Stockton and a defense that has barely allowed opponents to establish a running game. Alabama is also 5-0, with Keelon Russell emerging as one of the breakout quarterbacks of the season.
Then there is the history: Alabama leads the all-time series 45-27-4 and has won 10 of the last 12 meetings.
Georgia finally broke through with a convincing win in last year's SEC Championship Game. Tonight, the Bulldogs try to do something they have not done since Matthew Stafford was their quarterback in 2007: beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
Few regular-season games carry this much recent championship history.
Kansas at No. 12 Utah
5:00 PM PT (8:00 PM ET)
Utah gets a home Big 12 game under the lights at Rice-Eccles Stadium, where the Utes traditionally become much more difficult to handle.
Kansas has enough offensive creativity to create problems, but Utah's physicality and home-field advantage make this an important test for a Utes team trying to remain in the conference championship race.
With several Big 12 contenders already absorbing losses, every conference game is beginning to carry considerably more weight.
No. 23 Boise State at Fresno State
7:30 PM PT (10:30 PM ET)
The ranked schedule closes with a familiar western rivalry.
Boise State travels to Fresno for a late-night meeting with a Bulldogs team that would love nothing more than to knock the Broncos out of the rankings.
Boise State has recovered after its early loss to Oregon and enters this game back in the Top 25. Fresno State gets the advantage of a night crowd in the Central Valley, which has produced some memorable games between these programs.
The games that could define Saturday
Georgia-Alabama is clearly the heavyweight matchup, but the schedule underneath it is unusually deep.
Texas-Oklahoma is never ordinary. Indiana-Nebraska gives us a matchup of unbeaten Big Ten teams. UCLA-Oregon is the day's other ranked-vs.-ranked game and could immediately reshape the conference race. Missouri has to prove last week's demolition of Florida was not an anomaly, and USC has to survive one of college football's most intimidating environments.
Then comes Tuscaloosa.
By late Saturday night, we should know considerably more about whether Georgia has finally changed the balance of its rivalry with Alabama, whether Texas deserves to remain No. 1, and which of the season's September surprises are built to last into November.
