The autumn weekend we previewed turned into one of the wildest Saturdays of the season. Five of the AP Top 7 lost, including No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 5 Indiana, No. 6 Alabama and No. 7 Texas. Miami survived Florida State in double overtime, Ohio State escaped Bloomington, and BYU made perhaps the biggest playoff statement of the night by beating Notre Dame.

Friday provided a strong opening act as Washington ended its three-game skid at Purdue. Saturday then delivered upset after upset, leaving the race for No. 1 wide open.

Friday: Washington 38, Purdue 26

Washington finally stopped its Big Ten slide with an explosive road win at Ross-Ade Stadium.

Elijah Brown threw for 302 yards and three touchdowns, although he also tossed three interceptions, while Trey Cooley broke loose for 113 rushing yards and a 53-yard fourth-quarter touchdown. Washington finished with 488 yards and averaged eight yards per play.

Purdue remained within 31-26 early in the fourth quarter before Cooley's long run effectively put the game away.

Washington improved to 4-3 while Purdue dropped to 3-4.

No. 4 Ohio State 19, No. 5 Indiana 15

The weekend's marquee game lived up to its billing.

Indiana's 22-game winning streak ended by inches in Bloomington as Ohio State survived a final Hoosier drive and avenged last season's Big Ten Championship loss.

Julian Sayin threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted twice and eventually left with an arm injury. Jeremiah Smith caught only four passes, yet one was a critical 38-yard touchdown that put Ohio State ahead 19-7.

Indiana fought back. Josh Hoover found Nick Marsh for a touchdown, and the two-point conversion cut the margin to 19-15.

The Hoosiers drove into Ohio State territory in the final two minutes and had one last chance on fourth down. Marsh appeared to make the go-ahead catch near the end zone, but could not get his foot down in bounds.

Ohio State escaped 19-15, ending Indiana's unbeaten season.

No. 22 LSU 31, No. 16 Mississippi State 0

LSU delivered one of the most complete performances of the weekend.

Sam Leavitt completed 31 of 38 passes for 289 yards and four touchdowns, and LSU's defense completely shut down Mississippi State.

The Tigers led 21-0 at halftime and never allowed the Bulldogs into the end zone. Mississippi State managed only 291 yards and struggled badly through the air.

After the overtime loss at Kentucky the previous week, this was exactly the response LSU needed.

Florida 27, No. 7 Texas 24

Texas' season has suddenly taken a dramatic turn.

The Longhorns led 17-3, but Florida scored 24 unanswered points behind freshman quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. and running back Jadan Baugh.

Baugh's 11-yard touchdown gave Florida a 27-17 advantage with 6:26 remaining. Texas answered, but Arch Manning later lost a critical fumble while trying to lead another comeback.

Florida held on for its first road victory over an AP Top 10 opponent since 2012.

Texas, ranked No. 1 just two weeks ago, has now lost consecutive games to Oklahoma and Florida.

No. 25 Northwestern 24, Michigan State 21

Northwestern continues to quietly build one of the Big Ten's better seasons.

Michigan State took a 21-13 fourth-quarter lead, but Aidan Chiles scrambled for a touchdown and then completed the two-point conversion to tie it.

Northwestern got the ball back one final time and moved into range for Jackson Kleather's 34-yard field goal with five seconds remaining.

The Wildcats improved to 5-1 while Michigan State fell to 2-5.

No. 24 SMU 23, Virginia 13

SMU methodically took care of business in Dallas.

Kevin Jennings threw for 246 yards and two touchdowns, while Kendrick Raphael rushed for 124 yards. Virginia stayed within one possession through three quarters, but Jennings' 37-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Hale gave SMU the separation it needed.

The Mustangs improved to 5-1 and kept themselves very much in the ACC race.

No. 10 Texas Tech 53, Arizona State 25

Texas Tech remains undefeated, and this one was never particularly close.

The Red Raiders exploded for 43 first-half points and finished with 502 total yards.

J'Koby Williams was spectacular, rushing for 165 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries. His 62-yard touchdown helped Texas Tech build a 21-0 first-quarter lead.

The Red Raiders are now 6-0 and continue to look like a legitimate Big 12 title contender.

Auburn 27, No. 1 Georgia 24

This was the shocker of the day.

Georgia led 14-0 early, but Auburn scored 24 of the next 27 points and forced three Bulldog turnovers.

Byrum Brown accounted for 265 yards of offense and two touchdowns, while Auburn's defense intercepted Gunner Stockton twice.

Georgia rallied from a 24-14 deficit and tied the game with 3:05 remaining. But Auburn drove into range, aided by a late roughing-the-passer penalty, and Alex McPherson kicked a 34-yard field goal with three seconds left.

It was Auburn's first victory in Athens since 2001 and immediately knocked Georgia out of the No. 1 position.

No. 9 Ole Miss 31, No. 13 Missouri 3

Ole Miss completely shut down one of the SEC's hottest teams.

Missouri entered having scored 72 points over its previous two games. Against Ole Miss, the Tigers managed only a first-quarter field goal.

Trinidad Chambliss threw three touchdown passes, while Kewan Lacy rushed for 122 yards and Makhi Frazier added 101.

Missouri quarterback Austin Simmons threw for 339 yards, but the Tigers could not finish drives and star running back Jamal Roberts was held to just 39 yards on 20 carries.

Ole Miss improved to 5-1 with an impressive 28-point victory.

No. 14 Tennessee 26, No. 6 Alabama 10

Alabama has lost consecutive games.

Tennessee's defense held the Crimson Tide to just 201 total yards, forced four turnovers and did not allow Alabama to score after halftime.

DeSean Bishop was the offensive workhorse, carrying 32 times for 159 yards and two second-half touchdowns.

Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell threw for only 147 yards, was intercepted twice and lost a fumble. Tennessee controlled possession for nearly 36 minutes and gradually wore the Tide down.

For a rivalry that has so often belonged to Alabama, this was a remarkably convincing Tennessee victory.

No. 3 Miami 43, Florida State 35, 2OT

Miami nearly became another Top 5 casualty.

Florida State tied the game at 28 with 2:49 remaining when Ashton Daniels found Duce Robinson for a 75-yard touchdown.

Both teams scored in the first overtime. In the second, Darian Mensah found Malachi Toney for the touchdown, and Toney then threw the successful two-point conversion to Cooper Barkate.

Florida State's response ended when Daniels was intercepted in the end zone.

Mensah threw for 326 yards and three touchdowns, while Toney caught 11 passes for 154 yards and two scores.

Miami remains 6-0, and with Georgia and Notre Dame both losing, the Hurricanes suddenly have a very strong case for the nation's No. 1 ranking.

No. 20 Houston 35, No. 18 Oklahoma State 32

The Big 12 showdown in Houston became a shootout.

Conner Weigman was sensational, completing 24 of 33 passes for 343 yards and five touchdowns.

Oklahoma State quarterback Drew Mestemaker nearly matched him with 365 yards and three scores. The Cowboys cut Houston's lead to three with just under five minutes remaining, but the Cougars successfully drained the rest of the clock.

Houston improves to 6-1 and strengthens its position in the Big 12 race.

No. 8 BYU 28, No. 2 Notre Dame 24

BYU delivered the night's biggest playoff result.

Notre Dame erased an 11-point halftime deficit and took a 24-21 lead with 9:36 remaining.

Then Bear Bachmeier answered.

The BYU quarterback directed the winning drive and found Walker Lyons for a six-yard touchdown with 1:53 left.

Notre Dame still had a chance, driving inside the BYU 10 in the final seconds, but CJ Carr's final pass fell incomplete.

Bachmeier accounted for three touchdowns, and BYU remained unbeaten at 6-0.

With Georgia and Notre Dame both falling, BYU now enters the conversation not simply as a playoff contender but as a potential top-five team.

No. 12 UCLA 17, Wisconsin 7

UCLA remains perfect.

With Nico Iamaleava unavailable, Ty Dieffenbach threw for 264 yards as the Bruins leaned on defense and possession to control Wisconsin.

The Badgers pulled within 10-7 in the third quarter, but Anthony Woods' three-yard touchdown early in the fourth restored UCLA's two-score advantage.

Wisconsin finished with only 214 total yards.

The Bruins are now 6-0, one week after their road upset of Oregon.

No. 15 Kentucky 21, Oklahoma 13

Kentucky keeps finding ways to win.

Oklahoma led 13-7 entering the fourth quarter before Kenny Minchey found Willie Rodriguez for the tying touchdown.

Then the Kentucky defense took over.

Oklahoma committed four turnovers, including three John Mateer interceptions. Jaden Castell returned one of them for the go-ahead touchdown with 1:25 remaining, and Ty Bryant intercepted Mateer again to finish it.

Kentucky is now 6-1 after three consecutive dramatic victories.

No. 11 Utah 27, Colorado 24

Utah survived a serious scare in Boulder.

The Utes led 13-0 at halftime before Colorado scored 17 third-quarter points and briefly turned the game around.

Devon Dampier responded with two touchdown passes to Braden Pegan, including the decisive six-yard score with 3:46 remaining.

Colorado pulled within three and reached midfield on its final possession but ran out of time.

Utah moves to 6-0.

No. 21 Wake Forest 41, California 7

The late-night game in Berkeley was over almost immediately.

Wake Forest led 34-0 at halftime and finished with 509 yards.

Gio Lopez threw for 267 yards and four touchdowns, three of them to Dominick Barry. Barry finished with 102 receiving yards, while the Demon Deacons averaged more than eight yards per play.

Cal did not score until midway through the fourth quarter.

Wake Forest improves to 6-1.

A Saturday that changed everything

The headline is not simply that several highly ranked teams lost. It is who lost, and how many fell at once.

Georgia lost at home to Auburn. Notre Dame went down at BYU. Indiana's 22-game winning streak ended against Ohio State. Alabama lost for the second straight week. Texas lost for the second straight week.

Five of the Top 7 went down on the same Saturday, leaving Miami, Ohio State and BYU as the obvious candidates to benefit most when the rankings are reshuffled.

At the same time, several other teams strengthened their cases. Texas Tech and UCLA remain unbeaten. Utah is still perfect. Kentucky keeps winning close games. Houston took control of a major Big 12 matchup, while Ole Miss and Tennessee delivered emphatic SEC victories.

We went into the weekend expecting Ohio State-Indiana to tell us a lot about the Big Ten.

Instead, by Saturday night, nearly the entire national championship picture had changed.
